Tags: 2nd congressional district, health care, Jay Fleitman, malpractice reform,

Jay Fleitman, candidate for the republican nomination for the congressional seat for the 2nd district in MA was our guest for the entire hour. He’s a physician so a lot of the conversation was about health care legislation and tort reform. We also talked about spending, taxes, entitlements, Afghanistan, Iraq and the people’s anger at the federal government. Jay promises to be responsive to the people if elected, which as all you listeners know is one of my major issues.

We have a new producer at WESO and she and I haven’t quite figured out how to get the podcast into uploadable form. My apologies to Jay. Once we get the kinks worked out I’ll invite him to come back again.

Speaking of which, don’t forget to check out my newest venture: You Too Congress. If it is good enough for us, it’s good enough for You Too Congress!

Today’s show was really fun. I had expected to interview Jay Fleitman who is running for the republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District in Massachusetts, but I had the wrong week. So Joe and I just talked politics.

First we have a new theme song – Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5, which has absolutely no relevance to anything but is fun. Secondly I think I’ve got the podcast to 2 segments instead of 4. Let’s hope.

Joe and I talked Scott Brown, SOTU address, budget, debt, debt and more debt, the Virginia’s legislative victory (democrat) which makes it illegal to mandate health insurance (thus sticking a fork in any hope for resurrecting health care) NASA, Nancy Pelosi and affirmative action.

Meanwhile, I have a new project with some friends called YOU TOO CONGRESS which you can see here. We are pre-launch while we work out the bugs, but feel free to poke around. Congress gives itself a lot of perks on our dime and excludes itself from a lot of obligations. Our goal is to point those things out, which should lead to voting them out.

    One can hope.

Tags: , Coackley, GDP, health care, Obamacare, Senate race,

Sorry about the lateness of this entry – it slipped my mind in this holiday season

Tuesday’s show started with a discussion of the MA senate race – Martha Coakley v Scott Brown. Both Dick and I were chagrined that Brown has not come out more forcefully as the 41st vote against Obamacare.

We also talked about Gubernatorial candidate Tim Cahill’s use of nearly $400,000.00 of state money to pay lawyers to defend him against contract rigging allegations concerning the state lottery.

We talked about the President’s tanking approval ratings (46% strong disapproval), the sharp downward revised GDP and other economic bummers.

Nevertheless the hour flew by, and some Christmas cheer actually surfaced before we were done.

Dick spent some time on the MA senate race to open the show today. He will vote for Steve Pagliuca primarily because he is not an incumbent. I like Pagluica’s financial background (ex-partner with Mitt Romney at Bain Capital) but I hate his platform. He wants to tax the rich, expand government healthcare and crack down on Wall Street.

I brought up Climategate, which had not reached any of the media sources Dick relies on. I am hopeful that this huge scandal will put an end to the global warming baloney we have been subject to for so many years, and bring down the liberal media at the same time.

WE talked about The President’s unpopularity, and Dick reminded me that if he is not popular, he won’t be re-elected. I reminded Dick that a lot of damage can be done between now and 2012.

Next we talked about the health care vote on Saturday and Harry Reid’s $300 million Louisiana Purchase in exchange for Mary Landrieu’s vote. That didn’t seem to trouble Dick. So I wondered if putting $300 million for every senator’s vote in the bill would bother him.

We also talked about ACORN’s discovered document dump, the emerging policy in Afghanistan and Sarah Palin’s book sales of 700,000 in the first week. Amazing!

Tags: Drug companies, gays, hamburger, health care, Larry King, Money Matters, nanny state, Nobel Prize, reform school, Senate Finance Committee, sportsfishing

Joe Mangiacotta joined us today from Money Matters. He is taking over the 6-9AM spot on WESO starting net week. He plans to concentrate on local talent and talk about all things financial. I’ll be joining him next Monday at 8:00 AM for the kickoff.

WE started out discussing the awarding of the Nobel Prize to President Obama. Dick fantasized that the award went to the entire nation for its greatness. Joe and I laughed a bit too hard at that notion. We all agreed that a re-gifting was in order.

Health care was next as we awaited the vote in the Senate Finance Committee. Once again Dick complained about the cost of his drugs, and once again I reminded him that cost would not be going down as President Obama made a deal with the drug companies – they paid him off in exchange for no price regulation.

WE had an interesting discussion about the “Nanny State”. First on the list was the 6 year old cub scout who was given 45 days in reform school for bringing a spork to school. (Apparently late last night he got a reprieve.) WE went on to the potential ban on sports fishing – both Joe and Dick agreed that banning sports fishing would bring on revolution faster than anything. And we briefly discussed the proposed ban on hamburger and the fact that Larry King devoted a show to discussing the pros and cons.

WE discussed the White House war on Fox News and the gays – and much much more. Enjoy!

Today’s show was fun – we started with Dick’s correct prediction that Paul Kirk would be named interim MA senator (after Deval Patrick manipulated the rules to allow the appointment). This was minutes after Kirk declared he supported the “public option” and hours before it was voted down. C’est la vie.

We want on to Health care and the Congress’ gag order on Humana to force them to stop telling their policy holders what would be the changes under Obama care. We went on to the democrats unwillingness to allow the public (or Congress) to read the bill for 72 hours before the vote.

Next up GITMO and the very discouraging news that President Obama refuses press access to the camps. This is a huge and troubling change from the Bush administration. The key question is: why?

We talked about ACORN, Patrick Gaspard, ties to the SEIU, and the press. Dick gloated that 2 weeks after the whole thing unraveled he found a story on ACORN in the NY Times owned Worcester Telegram. Page 1 you ask? Of course not.

We moved on to Iran, Wall Streets $7.7m in donations to democrats this year (the bulk to Chuck Schumer) the Olympics, Roman Polanski and finally Sarah Palin’s new book.

    Enjoy!

Tags: , Congress, ethics, grand jury, health care, jets, John Edwards, Kent Conrad

The first half of the show was all about health care, health care and health care. WE had a bit of a battle over who could talk but by the break we had worked it out.

I brought up my weekly complaint about the irresponsiveness of my Congressperson Richard Neal who continues to answer none of my calls or emails. Dick promised to contact him and get him to respond as they are “very good friends”. Nothing so far.

We talked about the 8 new jets Congress earmarked for their personal use – and the pushback which was apparently successful.

I noted that the ethics committee decided that Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad did not act unethically when they received their VIP mortgages from Countrywide. Shocker!

In the tawdry part of the show we talked about John Edwards and the fact that the grand jury is meeting to see if his campaign misused funds by funneling them to his mistress.

That led to a discussion about what matters and what doesn’t when someone runs for office. That was the most interesting part to me, because I still haven’t made up my mind on it.

    Enjoy!

Tags: Blue Dog Democrats, Greg Craig, health care, hostages, , Move On, , , , , Sudan,

We started the program hopefully, with news that President Clinton was in N. Korea to facilitate the release of the two women hostages. Questions still remain about what we promised Kim Jon Il in return, but it’s a great day for those two women.

WE moved on to health care and the Town Hall meetings that have been attended by critics of the President’s plan. Dick had the talking points down – which surprised me – and suggested that the opposition was orchestrated. I told him to take a look at the signs. SEIU and MOVE ON tend do use machine made signs. Individuals not organized tend to make their own signs. I reiterated my latest attempt to contact my congressperson, Richard Neal. Attempt #6 was greeted with an answering machine. I assume he is at the beach.

At some point Dick gave me the now mandatory “I know politics and you don’t speech” and then we were able to move on.

We talked about the blue dog democrats – of which Dick says he is one.

I told the story of Sudanese journalist Lubna Hussein who is on trial for wearing pants in public. I have been particularly impressed by the solidarity other Sudenese women have shown by showing up at the trial, wearing pants.

We talked a bit about the rumor that Greg Craig, White house counsel would be fired as the scapegoat for the president’s foreign policy to date.

There was more, but you will have to listen.
